The job
An open concrete pit in Norfolk County, in September. Broken slats and rubble sat on the rim, and an excavator worked nearby. On Thursday we washed the dark manure line off the base of the walls, a stretch at a time, with our trailer open on the berm. On Saturday the floor went back to bare concrete, one pass at a time.
How we wash a pit: your applicator pumps it down and finishes agitating, and the space is aired out before we start. We park the rig at the pit, hook up to your water and wash the manure line off the walls, then the floor, back to bare concrete.
How we did it
- Thursday · Before we startThe applicator had pumped the pit down and the space was aired out. The rig parked on the berm and hooked up to the farm’s water.
- Thursday · WallsThe dark manure line washed off the walls a stretch at a time, from the top down, working from the rim and the open end.
- Saturday · FloorThe floor taken back one pass at a time, the wand cutting clean stripes through the dried crust.
- Saturday · Wash waterEverything washed toward one end, so the wash water stays in the pit for the final pump-out, never a ditch or tile drain.
- Saturday · DoneWalls and floor back to bare concrete, checked with the farmer before we packed up.
